Supporting survivors of institutional abuse

Survive signs contracts with two faith-based groups

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) was established as a statutory inquiry on 12 March 2015 to consider the growing evidence of institutional failures to protect children from child sexual abuse, and to make recommendations to ensure the best possible protection for children in future.

In response to the IICSA investigations into institutional responses to child sexual abuse and exploitation within the context of religious organisations, Survive has signed contracts with the Ampleforth Trust and the Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough to enable those who experienced sexual abuse within those respective settings to contact Survive direct for counselling support.

Says Survive CEO Mrs. Mags Godderidge: ‘We want to ensure survivors get the support they need to recover from their traumatic experiences. However, we also recognise that many of these survivors may not necessarily want these institutions to know they are accessing our services. We have therefore agreed with both institutions that we only provide non-identifiable aggregated data to enable us to receive payment for our services’.
